Meet Chelsea.
_
Chelsea Cain grew up as the
kid with dirt permanently stuck to her elbows and knees, running through the
woods and creeks and catching crawdads and frogs. So, when she found herself
working for casinos in Missouri,
Chelsea knew she needed to make a change and find a job that fit her lifestyle. Chelsea
came across a job posting for Mile High Youth Corps on Craigslist and joined
the Corps in 2010. Now in her third term
with the MHYC Energy Conservation program, Chelsea has taken a leadership role as an Assistant
Crew Leader, distinguished by a white t-shirt.
While most Corpsmembers are issued two t-shirts, Chelsea has already gone through six.
I'm not a sloppy person, I just love getting immersed in my work and a white shirt is the sacrifice. The day a fresh white shirt hits my back, it turns into a fresh canvas for aerator gunk, light bulb dust, and shampoo goo from showerheads. Chelsea will graduate from the Corps this December, taking with her countless friends, advanced knowledge of water and energy conservation, and the confidence of knowing that she can find a job that fits her skills and interests. If you value the opportunities that MHYC provides for youth, help us buy uniforms for our 2012 crews – we promise to get ‘em dirty! Read next story: Transportation
